Women Leaders, Career Status Check Time: Satisfied or Stuck?

As you begin to set your annual goals for the new year, and evaluate the progress of your leadership career, consider, are you happy with the current state, or are you ready to move forward, but feel like you are either stagnating, or just plain stuck?

If you are happy with your career progress, feeling valued for your skills & contributions Congratulations, that’s wonderful!

If you feel like you are stagnating, stuck, and unsure about how to move ahead, it’s time to look at what’s behind that and get you moving! I’ll share some information to help you in this series of posts over the coming days.

What is workplace success?

We all have different definitions of what success means to us personally. Research shows that in organizational life, there is a marked difference in the traditional definition of success between male and female leaders. While men tend to view position, and power as key indicators of their success, women, desire salary equality, but also place a higher value on quality. Quality: of their work life, quality - work life balance to meet family responsibilities, quality - seeing the positive impact of their contributions to the system, quality - creating collaborative work environments, and positive relationships with colleagues.

Create your personal definition of success to guide you as you decide on your next steps. Consider the following:

  • Are you living your values?
  • Are you achieving your purpose?
  • Are you still passionate about what you do?
  • And finally, complete the following sentence:

I know I am successful when....
